A Sufi lineage is a network or path of spiritual teachers, guides, and students transmitted across generations and often associated with particular devotional or mystical practices and related to a particular Sufi order. It is based on a particular understanding of the teachings of a particular Sufi master, and is typically passed down on an individual basis from a spiritual teacher to their student. The exchange of knowledge between the student and teacher is often an intimate one, based on an shared understanding of the divine and the profound spiritual realization that accompanies it.
